#138945 - Not sure Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I hadn't heard that we were importing refined gas from Europe and am somewhat suspicious of that claim. But, if true, I'd respond with:

I'm curious why there's enough refining capacity in Europe to sell petroleum products to the States, even though the environmentalists routinely get their way (and into the parliaments) over here. Maybe because even though the environmentalists routinely get their way, so do tax-crazy politicians that tax gas there so high as to be too expensive for domestic consumption. So even with the environmentalists, you may have excess capacity and why not sell that to the U.S.? Still, I hadn't heard before that we were importing refined gas. I'm not saying it's impossible but I'd sure like to see support for that assertion. That should be a much bigger problem in crowded Europe, too. Or maybe we just consider our back yards to be smaller ? ;) I'm guessing that might be more true than you know. Part of being so 'mobile' in the U.S. is that what we consider our backyard may, indeed, be much further away than what we would consider such if we were not so mobile thanks to our cars. Personally, I'd litter central Nevada with nuclear power plants and refineries. While Nevada would be upset, that'd just be for the sake of being upset since you could put that stuff hundreds of miles away from every significant population center in Nevada and no-one would even know it was there. Heck, put it east of the Fallon Naval Base and you can immediately respond to any threat hundreds of miles before it's a threat to the refineries and nuclear power plants. :) Regards, Craig Steiner |
