Heck. Many of the engineers I've talked to had a bomb-making hobby at some point (up to having the bomb squad arrive on the scene and giving them a very stern talking-to). Impossible nowadays without going to jail for decades. Ah, the good old times.
How are our kids _ever_ going to learn the "real life skills" ? Making bombs is "real life skills?" Sure, for a small percentage of the population but not for most. I hear what you're saying and I've often been concerned myself. But I just remember having a similar fear for the future of the country/world when I was a teenager and I saw a bunch of irresponsible people my age. I even remember mentioning that to my father who said that he, too, had a similar fear when he was a teenager. Of course, his generation subsequently put a man on the moon. It's ok to be concerned, but I really don't think it's as much of a problem as some seem to think. Leaving behind the apathy of being a teenager and being exposed to need/desire to make a living has a way of whipping people into shape. Survival is a strong motivator. Regards, Craig Steiner |
