I don't see anyone offering to pay their grocer more for food. Instead I see people taking their shopping dollars to the store with the lowest prices. Why should an employer pay more than the "going rate" for nothing more than mediocre competance. They don't want to work at all! As an employee, it's your responsibility to make your employer unwilling to contemplate running his business without you. I've heard a lot of employees complain that they got paid just enough to motivate them to do only enough to not get fired. I've never once heard an employee say that he wanted to work hard enough to make his employer want to pay him more. But I can tell you from personal experience, if you make yourself valuable enough, your employer will do what he needs to do to keep you. I can vouch for that myself... I'm not an electronics engineer, I'm not a real programmer, I don't know everything about international shipping, I'm not a salesman, I'm not particularly a friendly person, but I do my job, which is all of the above and I take it personally when I don't do a good job at something, so I do my best at everything I have to do. I think that is what we all should do. Especially in America! I'm pretty sure my boss would have to hire one to three people to replace me. Every thing I mentioned above, I do... on top of that, I'm a talented machinist, which is where I started out in this company. I have to fill in that position if things get slow. I see today's teenagers and I wonder what the future will be like... ??? We're going to get out butt kicked. Jon |
