What exactly is the benefit for a company to be located in such expensive areas?

The CEOs bought their houses years ago when housing was (more) reasonable and do not wish to move.

Sometimes I wonder how many CEOs there are that realize that they work "for the benefit of the shareholder", not themselves.

I work for a company here in "the silicon forest" that is located here because of available talent (they located before I was considered), the corporate staff is elsewhere. They located the company for the benefit of the company, and stayed put for the benefit of themselves - a fair compromise.
