I have been wondering about the "fantasy' salaries offered in Silicon Valley, but in the tax bracket owning even a modest home would require, maybe that is not 'fantasy' but 'necessity'. So what are the fantasy salaries in Silicon Valley? Considering the cost of real estate and the tax bracket at those levels, it seems like anything less than about $400,000 would be a reduction in standard of living. I've rejected full-time job offers out on the west coast just because I can't imagine they actually pay enough to make it worth it... But DO they?? And if so, why don't they pick up and relocate the company so they can pay their employees a normal salary and save a ton of money? What exactly is the benefit for a company to be located in such expensive areas? Or do they pay "normal" salaries and all their employees just live in studio apartments or shacks? Have to admit, though... if you live out in CA and have a salary sufficient to pay for one of those $700,000 houses and you actually pay it off before the next earthquake comes, you sell that house and move just about anywhere else in the country (except NYC), buy a house with cash, and just kick back and enjoy life. :) Regards, Craig Steiner |
