#122438 - maybe Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Way back, many of the famous inventors, scientists, etc lived in an age where the population was generally "uneducated".
So they had to teach themselves. Maybe things will go back that way...? Maybe they will, I will not claim to be a "famous inventor or scientist" but re assembler I "had to teach myself". I was introduced to computers this way: "For our next product we have decided to use something called a minicomputer (PDP-8) you guys figture it out. Later we designed our own minicomputers (the I-2000) for about half the price. I wonder how many here even would have an idea what a serial CPU is. Erok PS with the extra 2k of memory for a total of 4k the PDP-8 with its 8 instructions cost what in todays $$ would be about 100.000. Oh, it was lightning fast, it executed an instruction in a blazing 28us. Programming was a 2 pass assembler and the input was paper tape read at 10 cps, my largest assembly on the thingy took 5 hours to complete - and you had to sit there or -guaranteed - the paper tape would tear. Later we upgraded and got a unit with 2 30cps cassette tapes, WOW. |
