There has been much discussion in recent threads about the direction the US economy is taking, and the reasons for it. Anyone who bothers to do the research can figure it out, but just to get you started, here a a couple of recent news items:

Not only is it illegal to be homeless in Las Vegas, Nevada and Orlando, Florida, but it is illegal to feed the homeless:

It used to be illegal to be homeless in Los Angeles--until a District Court judge ruled that homelessness is not a crime.

The downturn in the economy is due to selfish poor people not spending enough money:
