#120959 - That is why nuclear generation is so appealing Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Aside from the huge cost of distribution infrastructure and the enormous risk associated with the inherently corrupt nature of our energy industry and associated government agencies, the nuclear solution is the clear leader, in theory.
Electric vehicles would, indeed, be relatively emission-free, if only there were a way to get the energy to them and put it "in the tank" quickly and conveniently. Now, it's easy, and quite sensible, to argue that one should take a break, have lunch, or whatever, and perhaps a nap, after driving 200+ miles, and the time needed to recharge the battery in an electric car of the sort described in this thread, might be appropriate as such a break, if it were not too long. The GM "EV1" was offered on the California market, as a leased car, and, with all their shortcomings, they were very popular and would have sold like hotcakes in California if they'd been made available. The people at GM didn't want to "kill" the EV1, but the pressure from the oil industry did it. GM claimed that the EV1's would be "totally recycled" but what really happened was that they were chipped, crushed, and buried in the desert. Now, this is a real opportunity for the energy industry people to maintain their grip on the energy market. Perhaps they'll come up with a way to produce energy without destroying the planet. RE |
