I used to believe that stuff, too. Not so much anymore. Maybe you will again. A rich person can only stay rich if others have money to spend on what they're selling. If everyone else is on the street killing each other, the rich people's wealth is unsustainable. It's not in their interest. You're right, but the rich moguls are too stupid to realize that. Henry Ford paid his workers unusually high wages because he wanted them to also be his customers. These days, biznez dweebs are taking the opposite tack. They're downsizing and outsourcing to the extent that they are destroying their own customer base. In the short term, this idiocy makes them more wealthy, but in the long term, as you say, it is unsustainable. Marie Antoinette learned the hard way; today's ruling class will also learn the hard way, simply because they are too dumb to have learned the lessons of history or to be able to see the predictable consequences of their stupidity. We're seeing the beginning of the end now. Businesses are complaining that no one is buying their crap. Well duh! All those who were buying it no longer have jobs! As Einstein said, "Only two things are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe." |
