I had the impression that that was the case, but, in cases where someone other than the O/P wants to continue the thread, that same someone should "take possession" of it by starting a new thread of the same title, or something on that order. Again, however, daily access, or once every 48 hours or some other reasonable timespan, and I like 24 hours, should apply. Again, if someone likes the thread so well that he's willing to take possession, then HE's got to strum it every day.
It's not really useful having everybody tell someone how to use his "flibbedy-gibbit" when the guy's really no longer interested. OTOH, if I was planning to use the SuperWidget800A, then I could, conceivably pick up the thread, assuming it was of benefit to me to do so. The aging scheme that's in place seems, actually, to work very well, but I think the O/P should have the responsibility to access the thread daily, or have it close, and subsequently die if he doesn't.
