#119355 - There has been more damage done via this Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Just recently there have been a lot of postings from newbie types that have received answers which were too dismissive and took the tone of ' I am too wonderful to lower myself to answer your question' which isnt what this is supposed to be about. So instead of dismissing some newbie question with some flippant remark we could do with a little more humility.
"I am too wonderful to lower myself to answer your question" Jez, at least as far a me, you have got that one wrong. Answering any question is not "lowering". If you look through some threads, you will se that OPs that have posted the problem clearly and/or answered raised questions have got their answer. There has been more damage done via this forum by guessing, than there has been damage done by asking questions of the OPs. "which isnt what this is supposed to be about" agreed, but neither is it about solving problems for lazy individuals, that want to sit down and wait for the fried pigeons to fly in through the window. An issue of contention is requesting comments, Jez, have you ever seen anyone getting worse off by using comments. How often have someone solved a problem by commeting? millions of times. As far as what you suggest, here are a few "I can appreciate that your time is too valuable to write comments, my time is worthless, so I will figure it out anyhow" "I understand that you have a problem and that it is not your job to make easy for me to understand what it is. When I am done with my daily duties, I will stay on, be it till midnight, trying to figure out what you want and supply it" or "here are some questions, if you do not see fit to answer them, that is okay, I will figure it out anyhow" or "since the answer is in this Huge (it is more than one page) document called "the bible" I will take upon myself to extract the information you need and post it" Jez, if you look through the posts that stated 'vague' you will see that the attitude of the respondent has no effect, only the attitude of the OP. This is really about giving away fish or giving fishing lessons. Erik |
