Yes I understand the theory but I and these circuits live in the real world where capacitors explode and burn. Most often due to end of life failure but sometimes from lack of understanding dissapation requirements in the circuit.
I had a lab project in school involving the effects of loading on the wave forms in a split phase motor. After calculating the optimum capacitor value you went to get your parts from stock where you could select a small almost perfect value cap or a much larger slighty off value hi dissapation cap. your mark was tied to the bang or lack there of.
