#102876 - DIP / surface mount Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I too am biased towards Dallas with the available DIP styles.
However, there are available conversion sockets in which the Silabs chip could simply "snap in" to place, and the socket has your standard .1" leads on it; solders in to radioshack perf boards nicely enough. I think it would be kinda neat to run this project on one of those Silabs chips, but I was looking at them earlier today, and I believe the one I looked at was $23... so they're kinda costly compared to the Dallas chips. Erik Malund said: just a suggestion: make traces etc to make it possible to use a SILabs f12x instead. If I recall re Dallas you have a 4 clock 40MHz derivative, the SILabs f12x is 1 clock 100MHz i.e. ten times faster. The Dallas part is a 1-clock 33 MHz derivative, so the SiLabs would be 3 times faster. I'm biased towards Dallas just because it's available in a DIP-40 and I'm not cool enough to know how to work with surface mount on my bench without a ton of frustration. Regards, Craig Steiner |
