This seems beter than the "longest post" of ATARI-52 based! Actually, this "8-bit computer" is really a continuation of that Atari-52 thread. That's where it all started--it just kind of got dropped for about 9-10 months. The main difference so far is that while I believe we were talking about using multiple 8052's back in the Atari thread, Phillip and I have been doing preliminary work under the assumption that a single 8052 will do it all. So far this does seem possible while offering monochrome video, Ethernet connectivity, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, and SD-card or CF-card mass storage. I think Phillip wants to get sound in there, too, but we haven't talked too much about that yet. Keep us informated please. Definitely. As I said, I think our tentative plan is to get the individual components of the system working so we have a really good idea of how much we can actually do with a single '450. Once we have concrete information on what we know can be accomplishhed with the available computing power, I'll start a project page here on 8052.com which will allow the data to be shared and there'll be a forum dedicated to discussing the topic. We can then all discuss the best way to integrate all the components, OS design goals, etc. Regards, Craig Steiner |
