Yes, I'm looking foreward to it... the computers that were fun.
Its exciting for me, because several years ago I breadboarded an entire 8-bit computer across 5 large breadboards, and it was based on the Z-80 cpu using software routines similiar to this copied out of a TRS-80. It was able to boot from existing software. My design at the time was just to get it running and working, although because of the large scale design and physical size (and breadboards) it was limited to around half the original speed, anything faster caused stability issues. Yes, of course, I don't expect this to run PC software, or be able to run windows or DOS. I understand fully what we're trying to do here. Thats why I'm so interested in this project; I attempted it years ago with a different CPU. I do believe, however, that implementation of the DAC should be a prerequisite though; when we show this board and its associated TV to our friends, they are going to want to see what it can do; get this thing to play MP3s from a compact flash file system and they will be impressed :) If anyone is interested in seeing the computer I built then, I included a link below to a picture of it; sorry its not all that clear. Digital cameras were unheard of when this picture was taken by one. The bottom left was the CPU board, memory was on the top middle one. Eventually, all 5 boards were full. http://www.geocities.com/adempha/computer2.jpg |
