Instead of simulating your application in software on some host system (usually a PC), you run your application in your real target hardware.

The OCD gives (very nearly) the same visibility of and control over program execution that you have in the simulator - or would have if you used a traditional ICE.

In IDEs like Keil uVision, the debugger user interface is identical for both simulation and OCD - so, from that point of view, the way you use them is identical.
