#177005 - SMD is far better than a DIP
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hans Heinz said:

What if one simply wants to use a DIP package.

One should not simply use the DIP when the SMD has far better advantages over the DIP electrically and mechanically.

Hans Heinz said:

(except that they are not the "latest thing").

It is not just the latest, the older package the DIP has more disadvantages.

Hans Heinz said:

Not every thing in electronics is manufactured in the thousands.

Not necessary, you can even make just in tens and still be cost effective and make a better engineered product with SMD.

The only negative point about the SMD microcontroller is the device programming part, even that can be minimised by using the device manufacturer recommended programmer.
