But that is a big advantage that should not be ignored. Not only are they easy to solder but also easy to put probes on.

And quite a lot of equipment exists and works well with DIP processors so they are not automatically bad choices.

But the bad availability, larger PCB space, hole mount (blocking traces on the PCB), ... means that they are not economicall for new designs.
