I'd recommend everyone look for a copy of the EIA standard and read it. Pay attention to what it says, and, even more important, what it doesn't say. Absolutely! Note that the "official" reference is now EIA/TIA-232-F http://www.tiaonline.org/index.cfm Although there's a huge amount of stuff about "RS232" on the internet, a lot of it is rubbish. :-( As ever, you need to go to the source document as your reference base. [rant] Unfortunately, the EIA/TIA is one of the few remaining standards organisations that beleives that you should pay for the ptivilege of reading their standards. IMO, this is a major contributing factor to all the confusion surrounding RS232... :-( [/rant] You should be able to get a copy via your local library |
