We need a small package, and that means small, not DIP8 !!

Of course they do have plenty of small packages!
DIP is very much the exception - not the rule!
(the is only one in each family)

I specifically noted DIP here because that (or, rather, its lack) is such a frequent complaint on this forum!

The LPC800 only has TSSOP16, TSSOP20, which are too large.

For this app, we need close to 3-4mm, so our candidate parts are MSOP10, and QFN20, or QFN16. - and we need Wide Vcc too, so the LPC800 has long-ago self excluded from the Possible Candidate list.

well, you will have to redesign anyhow.            01/01/70 00:00

         5V can be surprisingly useful            01/01/70 00:00
Most Automotive parts DO use 5V            01/01/70 00:00
