#188816 - NXP stated aim, "to make 8-bit architectures obsolete" |

A new offensive has begun in the struggle between 8-bit and 32-bit MCUs for capturing new design wins. NXP Semiconductors (this site's sponsor) has announced a new family of Cortex M0+ 32-bit MCUs specifically targeting the needs of current 8-bit MCU users. The company's stated aim is to make 8-bit architectures obsolete.
The company sees ease-of-use, architectural longevity, and power efficiency as the key attributes of 8-bit that keep designers loyal and has crafted its new LPC800 line to address those needs. That crafting also targets a price point (starting at $0.39 in 10k volume) rivaling that of 8-bit devices. The company unveiled the product line at Electronica 2012 in Munich, and an overview video is available here. http://www.microcontrollercentral.com/author.as..._185519605 |
