With a healthy battery, this is reasonably accurate.
With a dead battery that's no longer holding its charge properly, it no longer works.

Hi Andy:

Battery now replaced with exact replacement for this laptop, but not cheap battery. Here's what happened. Battery charged to 100% in 3 hours. The ac adapter is now running warm only never hot and laptop stopped turning off after 3 hours. Thanks to all members for their suggestions on this problem. The laptop now runs like new.
