Sometimes known as "coulomb counting".

With a healthy battery, this is reasonably accurate.
With a dead battery that's no longer holding its charge properly, it no longer works.

Hi Andy:

What you are saying makes sense to me and explains why the battery has these strange readings. So I will disconnect my ac adapter run the laptop on batteries should go dead in 30 minutes or less right?
