Do you remember that post in which you said you would "stamp my feet and refuse..." or some such? You even said you'd quit your job rather than to use the 8255, if your boss directed you to do so. If you don't know why a particular part was chosen (The boss might have had 10K units in old stock.)

My post above was about what this thread has been about: older derivatives, not older mismatched technology.

I'd say that you've steered this particular O/P in the wrong direction. If he has an application that programs his 8748/8749 using 8052 basic, why would you tell him he has to rewrite his 8048 code in 8052?
I wouldn't and i do not recall any threads about REdoing anything where this has come up.

We should let him do what he wants, no matter how we "feel" about it.
