In what way would it have been "better" or "easier" to do this with a more modern chip?
If you included EVERYTHING you would see that there (in my recollection) never has been a post "do not use an Intel ...AH that you already have". HOWEVER there has been many posts "instead of wasting the effort of building a programmer for the antique, use a modern chip" Erik Do you remember that post in which you said you would "stamp my feet and refuse..." or some such? You even said you'd quit your job rather than to use the 8255, if your boss directed you to do so. If you don't know why a particular part was chosen (The boss might have had 10K units in old stock.) I'd say that you've steered this particular O/P in the wrong direction. If he has an application that programs his 8748/8749 using 8052 basic, why would you tell him he has to rewrite his 8048 code in 8052? How will that make his job easier or make anything better? All it does is attempt to force him to do something he didn't want to do because you want him to do it. His working 8048 code is a finished task, all he wanted to do was to program another MCU of that same type. Redesigning the target system wouldn't improve anything! It's not even what he wants to do. We should let him do what he wants, no matter how we "feel" about it. RE |
