It's bugged me for a long time that the built-in disk defragmenting utilities only defragment files, leaving the free space grossly defragmented. It seems like it would be such an easy fix for Microsoft to address.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if you, or anyone, remembers interleaving? As best I can recall, it seemed to become a non-issue with the advent of IDE hardware. What I don't know is if it just went away because the access speeds improved enough that it became moot, or did it just get automatically addressed in the interface?
