Windows machines for some magic reason tends to slow down significantly with age. Yes, this is a well-known phenomenon! I have just rebuilt a system: I remember it seemed really fast when I first got it ~5 years ago, but was taking many minutes to start. I re-started from scratch with a new hard drive, but same old software, and now it's back up to speed! I don't know if this is really a "fault" with Windoze or just the way people use Windoze PCs - constantly installing stuff, and updates, etc, etc... If a *NIX PC were used that way, would it get the same problem? Probably a hidden M$ "upgrade-me-now" feature that slowly kicks in. As above, it doesn't need an upgrade - just maintenance. |
