The question is not "why is C so good", rather, "why would using anything but C make anybody a worse engineer" Such a question has no good answer, since the question is based in an incorrect view. What view? A question (my emphasis) "why would using [...]" cam be seem as a leading question implying that anyting but C really does make anybody a worse engineer. At least rewrite your question into a neutral "Would using anything but C [...]" Sometimes, C is an excellent tool. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes xx is a better tool. Sometimes it isn't. Using the wrong tool will often not make someone a worse engineer, but at least a not so efficient engineer. But sometimes, the wrong tool will not just affect the efficiency but will also affect the quality of the product. A good engineer would consider quality issues when selecting tool(s) to use. My debates with Richard is because he lives his life 100% convinced that anything but assembler is sub-optimal. An engineer should always know that there are more than one tool in the tool chest, and no single tool fits all problems. An engineer should not walk around thinking everything looks like a nail. |
