What do you actually need to achive with this test?

If it's a bought-in receiver module then, presumably, it either works or it doesn't - you don't need to characterise its performance in detail?

In that case, although you might not be able to get a (good) position fix, you might have enough signal to get the GPS time - which should show you that the module is (or isn't) working.

Have you asked the module manufacturer for their recommendations...?
