Well, you didn't put the dots in "aka" - so why should they be in "i.e."?

In my schooldays, we were taught to put the dots in abbreviations - but nobody does that anymore.
Many can't even manage capital letters...

Anyhow, a more important concern is to understand the difference between "ie" and "eg"...
