I suppose that restoring from Apple's Time Machine is a heckuva lot easier than reinstalling Windows, then reinstalling apps, then ... Although the whole point is that reinstalling OS X is easier than reinstalling Windows. I don't know how Windows installations compares to Apple installation. But I've never had any issues with the amount of time it takes to do a Windows install. The Windows install procedure is even easier than the last Red Hat install I did--mostly because you don't have to select packages. Other than that, the install procedures are pretty much the same. The problem with Windows isn't the installation time--it's the fact that you periodically have to re-install the OS to clean things up. Though, truth be told, I actually haven't had that problem with a 2+ year old XP machine or an almost-one-year Vista machine. It also probably depends on how much junk you install and uninstall. I tend not to install junk on my machine--though my old XP machine (which is mostly a stereo system at this point) is often used as a guinea pig for new software so I'm sure at some point I'll have to reinstall that sucker. Then again for what I use it for (stereo system 90% of the time) it probably doesn't matter (and I probably wouldn't notice) if it slows down 30%. Regards, Craig Steiner |
