Until the run-of-the-mill software product I see is always perfect, which will certainly be a cold day in hell, I will not rely on "antivirus software" to do anything other than absorb my excess money.
Yes, I use it, but I worry not about the virus that the Symantec, or whoever, people know about, but the one they've missed. It's probably simple enough to keep a LINUX system on the network and simply TAR the system files to tape. The key is to use a utility that copies, bit for bit, the hard disk to the backup medium, not file-by-file, but bit for bit, warts and all. That way, the OS is preserved, along with everything else, so you don't have to go through all the tedious install processes to restore. RE |
