Just because it hasn't happened to me doesn't mean that it can't happen to you! Assume, for now, that I've just been really lucky!

I've witnessed the consequence of numerous HDD failures. None of my notebook drives have died, though. People tend to be excessively pessimistic, which is smart, since being optimistic leads to complacency, which leads to severe problems when things do fail.
