#145063 - modbus exist does not make it pantyhose Responding to: ???'s previous message |
the code involved implements Modbus so anything else is immaterial. if that is the code used who has decalred that that is THE code to be used?
To reduce the fat would make it not compliant with Modbus so the vast amount of hardware, software and tools available for this would be of no use. Do you really need "vast amount of hardware, software and tools" to make a master slave system work? So, show me a documented protocol with wide industry support that uses async 56k baud that can poll 200 slaves in two seconds that has free tools. I can not show you anything "with wide industry support" but the fact that modbus exist does not make it pantyhose (one size fits all). A simple, safe, protocol is preferable in many cases. But I can show you somehing used (with slight variations) by many developers. If modbus is used at something you connect to, it is, of course, manadatory. However you can achieve "industrial strength" with far simpler protocols, especially when using the 9bit mode. I am not arguing against modbus as ONE possibility I am arguing aginst it being pantyhose. Erik |
