#138583 - USB Descriptors
Responding to: ???'s previous message
This information is stored in the USB string descriptor (and transfered during enumeration).

The off-the-shelf cables hard code this into the micro. However, companies like FTDI allow you to hang an EEPROM off the micro and add your own custom information (including manufacturer, product name, etc).

I guess one could "hack" the enumeration driver and insert appropriately, but I think Bill would frown upon this.
