At the SSC Laboratory, the final section of the Linac was to be a CCL (Coupled Cavity Linac). It was being built, on site in Texas, by a team of accelerator scientists from Beijing. As they would bring each cavity on-line, they used a "fine-adjusting tool" to mechanically change the tuning of the resonance mode of each cavity. They would hit it with a ball-peen hammer.
