many a technician had the famous "Pink Pearl" eraser in his tool kit for purposes of cleaning dust and other contamination off edge connectors. They seldom caused problems, and those generally were eraser crumbs negligently left on the connector fingers.

What I did is use the erasing machine with a pink-pearl eraser in it to erase (by rubbing off) the labels from the plastic (and all CMOS) devices in my circuits. I never noticed any ill-effects.
