doing this would make it the equivalent of a CPLD simulator and, while the inner workings of a CPLD have some interest (YOU are responsible for clocks being timed right) who, but the manufacturer, cares about the inner timongs of an off the shelf chip?

Richard, please state - just one - example of where a clock by clock simulator would help you in development.
