You are totally right! I would never use an electrolytic for this. In my first post I recommended a mylar cap, by the way.

Well, whether this simple 555 circuit will satisfy depends on Suresh's needs. As Andy already mentioned, a microcontroller solution will give much more precise results. But is Suresh actually needing this precision?
