Where on earth did you get that circuit?

The 555 datasheet clearly shows how to connect it for astable operation, and explains how it works:

Not quite - it's missing the capacitor to pin 5 (Control Voltage)

Why go to some unknown site when it's all right there and freely available in the Datasheet?!
