some SD/SDIO host controller chips and/or cores.

a diagram in the first link (for a core by Arasan) shows it connected to an 8051 via a parallel bus. i think at least one of the chip/core flyers mentioned 4-bit-wide.

only found a price for the Ricoh chip; $58 ($74 with shipping) at partstore.com, but the site might be treating it as a camera replacement part and so charge a higher price.

p.s., wikipedia has some discussion on the SD proprietariness.
