You're right, in that few people take the time to ensure they've used the correct nomenclature.

Remember that serial I/O connector on the PC? It's not a DB9P ... it's a DE9P. Most people use the wrong nomenclature, and have done so for over a generation, now, so it's become standard practice. Sooner or later, someone is going to learn the hard way ... i.e. they're going to order DB9P and get what they ordered.

You're right, in that it comes up all the time, yet nobody concerns him/herself with correctness any longer. They just want to be "kewl."
