you might find a RS232 cable, which is fine when communicating with the PC.

This is increasingly unlikely: it's much more likely to be a USB cable these days - which adds orders of magnitude of complexity to the task!

you might be able to find information how you can connect the phone directly to your microcontroller

But obtaining the necessary connector is likely to be difficult or impossible
