Andy, what part and/or tool chain are you using? I think you could probably guess that one with a little searching... ;-) For learning, the Luminary (now TI) parts are definitely my favourite: the Luminary kits are cheap, and you get everything ready-to-go in the box - that's tools, board and debug adaptor. I see the fact the the debug adaptor is included as a huge advantage - one of the biggest problems for a beginner with all the other kits is having to separately source and configure your debug adaptor[1]. And the kits are not locked to a toolchain - if you buy the "Keil" version of a kit, you can download the other versions from the website and use them just as well. [1] Actually, Hitex have some nice-looking USB stick thingies for ST and NXP - they have the debug integrated, but I'm not sure if they're locked to Hitex tools? I've used both Keil and CodeRed tools. I guess Keil is Keil is well enough known in these circles already... For low-budget learning, I think CodeRed is great - as it is free & completely unlimited when used with the Luminary board. You only have to pay when/if you want to use it on your own target hardware. IIRC, the full licence was only about £500... PS. Maybe Craig can make us an Arm forum like this fine 8052.com one. I don't care much for the Yahoo Groups format. I guess Craig probably has quite enough on his plate already...? |
