Part of the problem is the lack of availability of "medium-high performance standard" 8051 parts. We would like to target P89x51Rx2 but it looks like the V series or LV series are the only ones you can buy. And it's hard to find emulation support for them.

The Acqura LPC9xx emulator we have is awesome but it looks like the company has run out of steam regarding the 40-pin-ers as all these variants get EOL'ed and replaced with similar ones (E.g. the P89C51Rx2 being hard to find compared to the V series ... at least in my locale).
