It isn't even necessary to do that.

All the prices came from the same catalogue on the same terms; it doesn't really matter what the actual values were, nor even the currency - the point is just to show that the prices are closely comparable.

In other words, the question of whether the ARMs can be price-competitive with 8051s is answered in the affirmative (well, broadly speaking, at least).
