#186215 - It was common in the U.S. to buy small quantities locally
Responding to: ???'s previous message
You can't do that any longer, though.

The advantage was, that you could ensure that you actually got what you wanted. Back in the mid-late '70's, the guys who took your order at the distributor and those who shipped your parts didn't always know what the DL2341QZX was, or was supposed to be. They didn't know the significance of the -N -C suffix, or the -25 or -10 suffix meant, hence didn't pay that much attention. Seldom enough did they know what "Friday next" meant, and often enough, they confused "arrive no later than" with "ship sometime around."

Buying passives for your prototype locally meant that you might actually get it completed on time, while ordering them on the phone often meant a two or three week slip.
