#186093 - Alas so huge amounts of false bug reports to support
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Andy Neil said:
If a low-volume user reports a chip bug, the chip manufacturer should be interested in case that bug affects their high-volume customers...

Except that a large percentage of hw bug reports are actually errors in the users software - or totally incorrect assumptions from the user. So many manufacturers focuses on the big customers - where the money are - while waiting until they see a number of smaller customers complaining about the same thing. Some manufacturers don't even have the tools to notice that multiple customers are complaining about the same thing - it's only the few that gets their reports screened by a real engineer that may have their problems taken into account for workarounds, or fixes.

In the end, real professionals gets hurt by the large amount of unskilled people out there.
