re cable modem operating from one of those buggers, my observation is that while it usually is a snap response, somethimes, for a second or two it is not.

could this be the reason that magic jack behaves according to its price?

I also have phone from the cable company and have had no complaints whatsoever, I guess that when the cable 'knows' it is phone it is prioritized and sequenced and that jack packets are treated as data.
