Unless you are making these things in huge volumes, the difference in price of one chip is unlikely to have any significant effect on the overall product cost by the time you've accounted for aquiring all the necessary tools, support, the learning curve, etc, etc,...

Remember: "tools" is not just the compiler etc; it will affect your purchasing, inventory, production, support, etc, etc,...

That's not knocking Freescale - it would be the same if you were an established Freescale user considering an 8051...
